The Effect of New Daylight Savings Rules on CXR Larus Timing and Synchronization Products March 1, 2007 In 2005 the US Government enacted the Energy Policy Act, which moved the starting and ending dates for Daylight Savings Time (DST) to approximately 4 weeks earlier and later, repectively, beginning in March 2007. As a result of this the CXR Larus Engineering and Quality teams have recently completed an exhaustive examination of our entire suite of timing and synchronization products and have concluded that our products will be unaffected by the change. CXR Larus timing products that are GPS based use a user configured time offset to UTC (Universal Coordinated Time) or GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) time provided by the GPS satellites to provide local time. The offsets for local DST and Standard Time (ST) are manually configured by the customer, and this will not change just because DST or ST now occurs on a different date. CXR Larus timing products that are not GPS based utilize manual updating for DST or ST. These are also unaffected by the moving of DST start or ending times. Our Network Time Protocol (NTP) products output only UTC time, so it is the users client software not the NTP server that must be updated for DST. If you have any questions about how to change the local time in your CXR Larus product please consult the product's users manual for information.
